TAG Semantics

Up to at least -protocol-03 the TAG ABNF includes specific semantics, the static- and dyn-parts. This is based on an idea of Albert Mietus in 09/2003. This idea made it into the syslog-protocol draft. Under new review, it is now (02/2004) questioned if these semantics are really helpful or if they should be removed.

TAG has a long history and we need to dig deep in the archive to fully understand this issue.

Discussion Milestones

These milestones include important past discussion.

• Chris Lonvik [2003-09-03] summarizes the then-proposed things for the TAG. This provides some background for the other dicussions (I recommend to read the whole thread)
• Albert Mietus [2003-09-30] proposes semantics for TAG as well as a related ABNF. Be sure to follow this thread - it contains information vital to understand why the TAG is in -protocol in the way it is. The TAG in -protocol-03 is as it is because of this discussion!
• Anton Okmianski [2004-11-02] questions if there is actually need to describe the tag in regard to static and dynamic parts. This actually created this issue here.
